It's no surprise Elizabeth Martin has devoted her life to design. As she puts it, "Where I grew up, it was in the drinking water" - her father worked as a developer/builder, her mother as an interior designer. From an early age she had a passion for Knoll furniture, an eclectic taste in textiles, and a love of antiques. After receiving her BFA in communication design from the Parsons School of Design, she worked in New York for an architect, then as a graphic designer and art director for advertising agencies, corporations, and Vanity Fair magazine. In San Francisco, while at Gap Inc., she helped shape brands and launch products for the personal care division.
Elizabeth founded Elizabeth Martin Design in 2002. With a focus on residential interior design and decoration, she brings together everything she's learned from her extensive design background, combining it with her love for people and a sensitivity to process.
"The last thing visitors should say when they walk into your home is, 'Who's your decorator?'" she explains. "Interior design isn't just about picking out pretty furniture or tiles, it's about looking at how you live." A listener by nature, Elizabeth sees her role as guiding clients toward finding their authentic voice and aesthetics. The process is deeply personal. "I love helping people figure out what's important to them, and then translating that into the rooms where they live. Your home should reflect who you are."
As a result, the spaces she designs are as varied and individual as the clients she works with - using classic lines, rich textures, eclectic juxtapositions, and both subtle and bold color choices. The emphasis is on beauty, sophistication, and comfort. "The places we live in should be sanctuaries," she says. "I want to create environments where people can truly feel at home with themselves and then go out into the world recharged."
